THE DRIVER EXPERIENCE
The true test of good service is in the field
Expect More From Select Express & Logistic Drivers
We recognize that our drivers are not only our emissaries but yours as well. That is why we go to great lengths to put the right skills and the right mindset behind the wheels of our vehicles.
The skills that are needed to drive various cars, vans and trucks is only a part of the driver experience. The attitude and demeanor of our drivers is what sets us apart from our competitors. Our drivers understand that they carry with them more than our customer's goods that require transporting and handling, that in fact they carry with them the reputation of Select Express & Logistics and the responsibility to create a positive experience for our customers' customers that will ensure their success.
It was 5:00 PM, March 30, 2011 and we received a call to make a delivery on the following morning. Last minute is not unusual in our line of work but this job had some special challenges and a really big surprise.
The request came from Sam's Club located in San Fernando, CA to pick up from their store at 7:00 AM sharp, a 3D Flat Screen TV, 3D Glasses, and ten laptops. The merchandise had to be at the Audubon Middle School in Los Angeles by 9:00 AM sharp. We had 2 hours to load the truck and drive the 20-mile journey right in the middle of LA's Rush Hour!
On top of making the delivery, we were needed to be on hand for the day and assist with a very special event. Our drivers were needed to load, unload, place, move and reload the merchandise. All of a sudden we found ourselves part of the production crew and stage assistants to Hollywood Rap Star/Actor Lil Romeo, a contestant on ABC's Dancing With the Stars. Lil Romeo, as the Ambassador of Urban Born, a non-profit organization that focuses on youth in urban communities, and Sam's Club, presented computers to the students of Audubon Middle School who had raised their grades with flying colors.
Audubon was one of the lowest-performing schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District in 2010, and the school's community is well known for high crime rates and poverty. Lil Romeo and Sam's Club were donating this merchandise to the local Audubon Middle School in Los Angeles on behalf of his foundation and the event was filmed for a National TV segment for March Madness. If you saw the event on TV then you might have noticed a smiling team of Select Express drivers too.– Joe Gallo, Senior Vice President
